Gala at Historic Villa Vizcaya… with Fireworks over Biscayne Bay

There’s no place like Vizcaya! Built between 1914 and 1922 as a winter estate of an early Miami pioneer, Villa Vizcaya is most noteworthy for adapting historically European aesthetic traditions to South Florida’s subtropical climate.  The estate’s architects combined imported French and Italian Renaissance garden layouts. Add in elements of Cuban limestone stone-masonry with Floridian coral architectural trim and planted subtropic native plants that thrive in our South Florida habitat. As a result, a unique and stunning property!  Open to the public since 1953, Villa Vizcaya is the FIRST site in Miami to be listed on the “National Register of Historic Places” in addition to being designated a “National Historic Landmark”. On a balmy tropical night a century later, our special guests were greeted with a red carpet and champagne toast! They were then free to roam the Renaissance-inspired Vizcaya Gardens. The estate’s acres of serene Tuscan and European-style grounds are adorned with fountains and statuary, some of which date back to antiquity.  The pièce de résistance, however, is the ornamental breakwater carved from Florida limestone that sits in the bay behind the main house. It’s on the coral rock East Terrace, right overlooking the breakwater and Biscayne Bay, where our clear-sky tent was placed for dinner and dancing. Guests enjoyed cirque performers, a gypsy-jazz band and a fantastic fireworks finale.
